Water Softener Installation in Tempe, Plumbed to Code

We test your water for free, size a softener to your hardness and household, then install it with a bypass valve and a drain air gap the way the plumbing code expects. You get softer water, less scale on fixtures and a clear installed price before any work starts.

How a Softener Changes Your Water

Calcium and magnesium dissolve into hard water. Once that water heats up, the minerals drop out and harden into scale in your water heater, across shower glass and inside the narrow openings of faucets and appliances. A softener holds a bed of resin that grabs those two minerals as water moves through it, releasing a small amount of sodium or potassium in trade. Take the hardness out before the water reaches your fixtures and scale has nothing to build from.

Valley water is usually hard, though the level changes from home to home, and every household uses a different amount each day. So the first step is a free water test. Its reading shows whether a softener makes sense and how much capacity to choose, which keeps you from buying a tank larger than your home needs.

How the unit is plumbed counts as much as the unit itself. Several times a month a softener sends brine and rinse water to a drain. Code requires open air between the end of that hose and the drain below it, so used water can never travel back toward your drinking supply. We go over every requirement before work begins and take care of any permit your job calls for.

What Your Softener Install Includes

Free water test and sizing

We measure hardness at your tap and talk through how many people live in your home. That sets the grain capacity and regeneration schedule.

Equipment with install included

Installation is included with our water treatment systems. Your quote shows the softener, the valve and the install work as one installed price.

Bypass valve and main line connection

We connect to your main line or an existing softener loop and fit a bypass valve. If the unit ever needs service, one turn of the handle routes water around it and your faucets keep working.

Drain line with an air gap

The discharge line runs to an approved drain point with a physical air gap, which is what the plumbing code requires to protect your drinking water.

Startup and first regeneration

Before we leave, the brine tank gets its first load of salt and the control valve is set to match your hardness reading. We run one complete cleaning cycle and watch every joint for drips while it goes.

Warranty coverage

The equipment valve carries a 5-year warranty, and our installation and labor are covered for 5 years as well.

How to Tell Hard Water Is Causing Trouble

Chalky rings around faucets and showerheads
The white residue on fixtures and the spots on your dishes are minerals left after the water evaporates. Scrubbing it off buys you only a few days.
A water heater that crackles or pops
Minerals collect at the bottom of the tank and form a hard layer. Water caught beneath it boils in small bursts, which tells you the burner or element is straining to heat through that crust.
Soap and shampoo that barely foam
Hardness works against soap, so you go through more of it. Your skin and hair may feel dry, and towels and clothes come out of the wash stiff.
Weak flow from a single faucet or shower
Mineral flakes plug aerators and showerheads. If you clean them often, the same buildup is probably forming in places you cannot see.
A worn-out softener that has fallen behind
A unit that cycles nonstop, goes through salt with no effect, or lets hard water back in may have a tired valve or spent resin. We can test what comes out of it and give you a straight answer on fixing it or replacing it.

How Your Softener Install Goes

  1. 1

A phone call and a free test

You call, we set a time, and we test your water at no cost and with zero obligation. When the hardness is low enough that a softener would not earn its keep, we say so plainly and point you to what would help instead.

  2. 2

    A written, installed price

You get one price that covers the equipment, the install and any required paperwork with the city. We point out where the unit will go and how the drain will run.

  3. 3

    Install day

We protect the floor around the work area, then plumb in the softener with its bypass and air-gapped drain. Your water is off only while we cut in and connect, and we let you know before we close the valve.

  4. 4

    Programming and walk-through

We set the valve to your test results, run a regeneration and show you how to add salt and use the bypass. Then we clean up and leave the area as we found it.

What Changes the Cost of a Softener

Your installed price is built from what your water test shows and what we see at your home. Once we have those details we give you the number by phone and go over every line with you before you say yes. Here are the biggest factors.

Hardness level and daily water use
Heavier mineral content and more people using water mean a softener with more capacity. A larger resin tank has a higher upfront cost, but it needs to regenerate less often.
A ready loop or new pipe work
Lots of newer local homes come with a softener loop already plumbed in the garage, which makes the job straightforward. If there is none, we tie into the main line, and that takes more time and more fittings.
Reaching a drain and an outlet
The unit needs a drain that meets code, with an air gap, plus power for its valve. When either sits far from where the softener goes, we run new lines to it.
Demand or timer valve
A demand valve tracks how many gallons go through and regenerates only when the resin is nearly used up, so you buy less salt over time. A timer valve runs on a set schedule and has a lower starting price.
City inspection
If your job is big enough to need city approval, the permit fee and inspection visit are included in your price and shown as their own items.

Water Softener Questions

Do I need a permit to install a water softener?
It depends on the scope. Swapping a softener on an existing loop is often simple, while cutting into the main line or adding a new drain can call for city approval. We check what applies to your home, pull the permit when it is required and include it in your price. Either way, the drain gets a proper air gap.
Will soft water add salt to my drinking water?
A small amount of sodium is added in exchange for the hardness minerals. If you would rather avoid it, potassium can be used in the brine tank instead. Many homeowners also add reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water.
What warranty comes with the install?
The equipment valve has a 5-year warranty. Our installation and labor also carry a 5-year warranty, so if a fitting or drain connection we made gives you trouble, we come back and fix it.
Can you replace the softener I already have?
Yes. We remove the old unit, check the loop and drain for code issues, and fit the new softener in its place. If the drain was installed without an air gap, we correct it as part of the job.
How do I know you are a good fit for my home?
Start with the free water test and ask us anything while we are there. We also have 3 five-star Google reviews from customers who have been through the process.
